Overview

The purpose of this module is to help get you started – whether you have never heard of design thinking or have been working on an idea for a while. 

  • This module should only take you about 3-4 hours to complete, but you can spend as much time on it as you wish.
  • You can complete it at the same time as your team members, or you can complete it at your own pace to suit and organise a time to share ideas and work with your team.
  • It is not assessed or graded in any way.

Learning Path

Design thinking is a process for creative problem solving that is driven by human experiences and needs. It encourages you to focus on the people you are creating for, which leads to better products, services, and internal processes. Learn more about the history of design thinking and importance of a human centered approach in this module through content and an activity.

Before you jump into solving a problem, it is a good idea to make sure that your team has a common vision and goal and identify why you are participating in the Challenge. While your idea might change and evolve along the way, having a clear vision will help your team stay on track – think of it like a compass. This module will share some tips and strategies to help you develop a vision.

Ideation is a process of developing with ideas and solutions using a variety of methods and tools. First, this module will introduce you to some ideation techniques that can help you structure your brainstorming sessions and facilitate interesting discussion. 

Once you have generated some ideas, it is also important that you go back to reflect on how it relates to your overall vision. The second part of this module will encourage you to identify any questions that you still need to answer and provide some tips to help you validate (or test) the strengths and weaknesses of your idea.
